Essays

Picture
Through our studies in English I Honors and Advanced Communications we will be tackling a variety of essays, from creative to analytical. Many of these essays will focus on and work through the 6 Traits of Writing philosophy.

Each essay will serve a purpose in adding to your toolbox as a writer. Each essay may be an individual assignment with its own requirements and goals, but those components should add up to the bigger picture of what you are capable of doing as a writer in any situation.

As we tackle each essay, I will add them to the site with the necessary accompanying handouts to complete the writing assignment.

6 Traits Rubric

Below is the Word document of the rubric that will provide you the grading criteria for any 6 Traits writing assignments we complete.
Be sure to review this rubric as often as necessary throughout the writing process in order to ensure you are writing to the best of your ability.

Introduction to 6 Traits

Picture
You may be familiar with the 6 Traits way of writing. But if you are not, we will be going over it through the Power Point below. The Power Point will direct you through all 6 of the writing traits (Ideas, Organization, Voice, Word Choice, Sentence Fluency, & Conventions) and a number of writing activites to get you familiar with the traits.

We will then move through the first and probably the most important trait, Ideas. You will find when you have a good idea for a piece of writing, your writing will only get better. Your voice will come through and you should find the writing more enjoyable.
